Two more major hospitals in Gaza closed to new patients on Sunday, with staff saying that Israeli bombardment plus lack of fuel and medicine meant more babies and others could die. Hospitals in the north of the Palestinian enclave are blockaded by Israeli forces and barely able to care for those inside, medical staff said.   • The World Health Organization said Sunday that Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City “is not functioning as a hospital anymore”.
  • The hospital’s last generator ran out of fuel Saturday, leading to the deaths of three premature babies and four other patients, according to the Health Ministry. It said another 36 babies are at risk of dying.

  • Three UN agencies expressed horror at the situation in the hospitals, saying they had in 36 days registered at least 137 attacks on healthcare facilities, resulting in 521 deaths and 686 injuries – including 16 dead and 38 wounded medics.

  • The United States said it carried out strikes against two Iran-linked sites in Syria on Sunday in response to attacks on American forces.

  • The Hamas government in the Gaza Strip said Sunday the death toll from fighting between the militants and Israel in the Palestinian territory had risen to 11,180.

WHO restored communication with Al-Shifa hospital: After losing communication with its contacts in Gaza City’s largest hospital on Saturday, the WHO on Sunday night said it restored communication. “Regrettably, the hospital is not functioning as a hospital anymore,” said the head of WHO.
