Aashish Bhardhwaj, who is seen in Zee TV’s show Mithai, talks about the story and his role

How is this show different from other daily soaps that are currently on air?

The concept of this show is quite different from any other television show. It is an amalgamation of a love story and a family drama. Mithai is all about this vivacious girl from Jatipura, who wants to spread smiles with her late father’s unique recipe of aloo jalebis.

Please share details of your role in the show…

I play Siddharth, who cares a lot about his family, just like me in real life. Hence, relating to this character has been very easy for me. It was a perfect role to mark my debut in a lead role.

How has the experience of shooting, especially in locations like Vrindavan and Jatipura, been?

I have had a very fruitful experience shooting for this show till now, as I am getting to learn a lot every day. To bring alive the cultural essence, we shot the initial episodes in real locations where the character belongs — Vrindavan and Jatipura. Shooting at the Govardhan railway station with a live crowd, inside a real train, was a thrilling moment.

Tell us about the bond you share with your co-star Debattama Saha?

She is a very good person by nature. She is friendly and fun to be around. It is great working alongside Debattama.

Considering this show is named Mithai, are you fond of sweets yourself? In fact, which is your favourite mithai?

Yes, I am very fond of sweets in general. And especially Indian sweets. I love jalebi and gulab jamuns; they are my favourite Indian sweets. I also love gajar ka halwa that my mom makes.

This is your first show as a lead. Are your nervous or feel any kind of pressure to perform?

I am happy to have got this opportunity to play the lead in this show. I have always been a director’s actor and it has helped me grow each day. As a lead actor on the show, I believe it becomes a responsibility to give my best and make the most of it.

How do you view the television industry?

In today’s time, most Hindi television series contain and pass on strong, powerful messages, which are highly required to empower and educate the masses of our society. I believe it’s a blessing to one in some way or the other and I am certainly glad to be a part of this industry.
