The All Whites have escaped with a nil-all draw against China in their football international in Auckland this evening.

New Zealand dominated territory and possession in the first half but were unable to make the most it.

China were happy to sit back and absorb the All Whites attacks, preferring to defend and then look to score on the break.

The momentum shifted midway through the second half however when New Zealand captain Tommy Smith, playing his 50th international, was sent off for an illegal tackle as China attacked again on the break.

With New Zealand reduced to ten men, China looked to make the most of their numerical advantage and while they created scoring opportunities where unable to capitalise.

The two sides meet again in Wellington on Sunday.
