Amazon finally announces dedicated Prime Video app for macOS | Digit

It looks like Amazon Prime Video will now have a dedicated macOS app. The company has just announced that users on macOS will now be able to stream and download content from Prime Video. Amazon has also said that only users on Big Sur 11.4 and above will be able to access the app. The Prime Video app will be available for download on the Mac App store from November 15 onward. Users will also be able to stream content over AirPlay, use Picture-in-Picture mode and be able to download content for offline viewing.

Prime Video app launched for macOS

As awesome as it sounds, Prime Video will only be streaming in 1080p, which is a bit of a bummer as we’d expect 4K streaming to be the standard these days. Amazon has stated that support for 4K content will be coming soon. Users will also receive automatic macOS app updates. The app supports several accessibility features currently available on Prime Video, including audio descriptions and VoiceOver support. The Prime Video macOS app offers content in 9 local languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi and Bengali, in addition to global content, and use three local user interfaces – Hindi, Telugu and Tamil, besides English.

While availability will vary by marketplace, the Prime Video macOS app will support Amazon’s growing line-up of live sports globally. So we can expect sports like Cricket and Soccer to make an appearance. The live sports slate includes Thursday Night Football; Premier League in the United Kingdom; US Open Tennis, ATP, and WTA in the United Kingdom and Ireland; UEFA Champions League football in Germany and Italy; Roland Garros in France; Australian Swimming globally; and New Zealand Cricket in India.
