Amitt K Singh talks about his journey from UP to Mumbai

You have joined the cast of Ziddi Dil… Tell us about your role.

I am playing Dr Anish Malhotra, who is in love with Monami (Kaveri Priyam). The doctor is from Lucknow and loves poetry.

What kind of prep did you do for this role?

When I decided to do this role, I had a brief interaction with the creative team from the show. That helped me understand the role better. And then on the sets also you get to learn from your co-stars.

How comfortable are you working in this pandemic situation?

This is the third year India is facing this virus. I worked when the second wave struck us. I was shooting for Bhaukaal and followed all the instructions and this time also we all are extremely careful. The show must go on.

How was your journey from UP to Mumbai?

I am from Lucknow and I came to Mumbai in 2017. I am the youngest sibling in my family and did not want to do a government job. But I was very sure about my goals. As I wanted to enter the entertainment industry, I did my course in Fashion and Textile from NIFT and started working as a merchandiser.

Initially, you started working as a casting associate. How was the experience?

Yes, I worked as a casting associate for a year because I wanted to understand the industry. In one year, I was a part of so many casting processes and that helped me get a far better understanding.

You have worked in all three mediums. Which one is your focus now?

To me platforms don’t matter but a film is something which I would love to do. I have noticed that TV has a greater reach, especially in all remote places and also inexpensive.

What is your family’s reaction to your success?

My father’s advice is ‘don’t lose your focus’, and that is one thing I always remember. And, every day he actually waits for my show to come on air.

How do you maintain your peace amid the day-to-day chaos of life?

Before the first wave of Covid, I did a Vipasana course for 11 days and that helped me a lot to understand life better. I personally feel happiness is a state of mind.
