Android 12: Android 12 to alert you when an app tries to access your clipboard – Times of India

Google’s upcoming Android 12 will come with a feature that will send you a notification when some app tries to gain access to your clipboard, as per a blog post on Android Developers blog. Also, these toast messages will show the icon of the app that is trying to copy content from your clipboard, which would make it easier for you to identify the app. The feature will be tested in the second Android 12 Beta which is yet to be released. Right now, the first beta version has been rolled out to select Android phones apart from Google Pixel 5, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4A, Pixel 4A 5G, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3A and Pixel 3A XL.
With Android 12, Google is bringing this privacy-focussed feature that Apple rolled out first with the iOS 14.
Privacy Dashboard
Google will also add a Privacy Dashboard that gives users a timeline view of what apps tried to access their location, microphone and camera. The Privacy Dashboard will be rolled out with the Android 12 Beta 2. Users would be able to view the apps accessing their data by going to Quick Settings.
Microphone and camera toggles
Additionally, to cut off the app access to microphone and camera, Google is going to introduce two new controls or toggles which, Google hopes, would not require people to plug audio blockers in their phones or close their camera with the help of a sticker. For the sake of user safety, the emergency calls will be exempted from the new controls. The microphone and camera toggles will be introduced in Beta 2.
As per Google: “If an app with permissions attempts to access the microphone or camera but the user has the sensors turned off, the system will display a message to inform the user that they must turn the sensors back on in order to use the app’s features. If your app follows permissions best practices, then you don’t need to do anything different to incorporate the toggle state.”
