Sortizy is a food-focused app that aims to make food content more functional and impactful for users globally, helping them manage their food and diet at home efficiently through discovery of recipes, brands, products, videos, and more. It has been co-founded by Nitin Gupta, a mechanical engineering graduate from BITS Pilani Goa. Nitin has also held senior positions at OYO. In an email interaction with TOI Tech-Gadgets Now, Nitin spoke about the app
How did it feel to feature on Google Play’s Best of 2021 list in India?
It feels great to be one of the best apps of 2021 on Google Play. Google Play Store, as part of Android, helps app developers across India achieve scale and growth. The support and tools provided by Google have been really helpful in getting feedback from our user base, analyzing important data for growth, and measuring the impact of our growth initiatives.
What do you think is the USP of your app that has helped you get here?
Sortizy has been built to help people eat the food of their choice, easily and conveniently at home. To sustainably manage our diets, we have to rely on our home kitchens, and the Sortizy app has been designed to make each step of the process convenient, fun, and engaging. From discovering recipes of choice, creating and managing meal plans, discovering or purchasing relevant kitchen-related products, managing or shopping for groceries, to learning new skills, Sortizy is there to help at each step. Food touches everyone and, we believe, requires a dedicated tech platform designed specifically for food and cooking at home, and we at Sortizy are building just that.
How has the pandemic changed things for you, what has been the biggest learning across 2021?
When it comes to food, the pandemic has changed the approach to diets for many people. They are able to better understand the importance of a healthy diet for their physical and mental well-being, which has helped us gain users. We are seeing that many people are interested in new diets such as veganism or want to cook global cuisines with new ingredients.
What plans do you have for the app for next year?
Our goal is to be part of every home kitchen in India and help people connect and develop a meaningful relationship with food. Next year, we aim to refine the product further and build features that our users are actively seeking. We are also planning to increase the content on the platform by onboarding more content creators, bringing exciting brands and products, and driving informed commerce for them.
Any message that you have for users of your app?
We are immensely grateful for the trust our users have shown to us, and we want to assure our users that this is just the beginning of our journey. We are determined and very excited to create a unique tech-based platform centered around food – so that everyone can unlock the superpower of their home kitchens and seamlessly eat the food of their choice, right from the comfort of their homes.
