Apple recently rolled out the first iOS 16 beta and other operating systems builds. The company also rolled out new AirPods beta firmware that the company unveiled at the WWDC 2022 event last month.
A Twitter user George (via ShrimpApplePro) has posted that the AirPods Max beta firmware carries the support for high quality Bluetooth codec and he has managed to enable it via the latest beta firmware rolled out by Apple.
The developer claims that the support for higher quality LC3 Bluetooth code will improve the voice call quality of the Apple headphones and the support is expected to arrive with the AirPods Pro 2nd-generation.
Nothing is official as of now, but it is already clear that Apple has been planning to improve upon the Bluetooth audio quality for a while now and the company has already stated the limitations that Bluetooth technology possesses when it comes to pushing the high-definition audio. Also, the LC3 codec will only be available for devices that come with Bluetooth 5.2 technology.
However, the new higher quality codec in question here is the LC3 which stands for Low Complexity Communication Codec. It is a Bluetooth-codec just like LDAC, SBC. However, it is said to be a low-power and high quality codec.
Reports suggest that the upcoming H1 chip will be able to support the new LC3 codec and it might debut with the next-generation AirPods Pro. 9to5Mac has also confirmed that the iOS 16 will support the LC3 codec and low-energy audio support.
