Apple could be planning to marry the iPad with the HomePod, here’s how – Times of India

Apple could be planning to merge the functionalities of the iPad with the HomePod by creating an iPad cradle with an inbuilt speaker, as per a report by Bloomberg. The cradle could then work as a HomePod without the iPad and as a smart home hub with the iPad placed on a cradle.
Users can control the HomePod by issuing voice commands but if Apple is looking to build a smart hub, a display would be necessary to give more control options to the user. The rumoured hybrid device would merge the iPad touchscreen with the HomePod. With this interface, users may be able to control the HomeKit accessories through the touchscreen.
There are no hardware details at this time, but the cradle could launch “as soon as 2023,” says the report.
Apple is also rumoured to be working on the next HomePod device which could be called HomePod 2. The new HomePod is expected to be bigger in size than the last generation HomePod. It could be announced in the beginning of 2023, as per Mark Gurman. Aside from the iPad cradle idea, Apple is believed to have a separate smart home hub with a built-in display in the works too.
