Apple knew ‘everything’ about him, claims employee fired after others complained – Times of India

Earlier this week, a group of Apple employees were not too pleased over the hiring of Antonio Garcia Martinez, a former product manager at Facebook. Martinez has written a book that has several misogynistic statements. Like this for example. “Most women in the Bay Area are soft and weak, cosseted and naive despite their claims of worldliness, and generally full of sh*t”. The petition quoted several other such misogynistic references.
Moved by the backlash, Apple reportedly asked the employee to leave and now Martinez has come out with his version of events in a series of tweets. Martinez claims that Apple was very much aware of his writings and actively recruited him. “Apple actively recruited me for my role on the ads team, reaching out via a former colleague to convince me to join. Apple found my experience in the ads space, specifically around data and privacy, highly relevant to their efforts and persuaded me to leave my then role,” he tweeted.
In a series of tweets, he further said that he uprooted his life for Apple. “I upended my life for Apple. I sold my WA residence which I built with my own hands, relocated myself, shut down any public media presence and future writing aspirations, and resolved to build my career at Apple for years to come,” Martinez claimed.
With reference to his writing, Martinez said that Apple knew about that before hiring him and his “references were questioned extensively about my best-selling book.”
He further said that he “didn’t part ways” with Apple but was fired in a snap decision. “Apple has issued a statement that clearly implies there was some negative behaviour by me during my time at Apple. That is defamatory and categorically false.”
Apple hasn’t commented publicly on the whole matter in detail so far.
