Artemis Hospitals organises awareness programme on World Parkinson’s DayGurugram: Artemis Hospitals, Gurugram organised an awareness programme on the occasion of World Parkinson’s Day on April 11. The event aimed to spread awareness amongst people and share the journey of people battling with the disease. The celebration started with a walkathon last week followed by a series of events including awareness talks, CME & webinars conducted by Dr Sumit Singh, Chief-Neurology, Parkinson’s Specialist & Co-Chief, Stroke Unit and Dr Aditya Gupta, Chief-Neurosurgery & CNS Radiosurgery & Co-Chief, Cyberknife Centre.

The team of expert doctors apprised people about the disease, its symptoms, medical treatment, and the available option of surgery for Parkinson’s disease. Doctors aim to create awareness about the treatment process called deep brain stimulation (DBS). DBS implantation use advanced brain-sensing technology to bring back the patient of Parkinson’s to a normal life.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh, said, “The early detection of neurological disorders like Parkinson’s Disease with timely treatment is extremely crucial as underlying causes may hamper the nervous system which can change the way you move, talk or think. The treatment of Parkinson’s disease includes medication and surgery along with the lifestyle modifications though it varies based on the patient’s symptoms.”

Sharing views on the advanced technology of surgery available, Dr Gupta, said, “It’s very fortunate to have a successful treatment model for Parkinson’s disease which is deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery, as it plays a significant role in the treatment of severe cases. This can also be considered for people with early-onset Parkinson’s disease.”
