Assam: Special offline examination for Class XII students unhappy with results – Times of India

GUWAHATI: Candidates, who are dissatisfied over the statistical evaluation-based results of the Class XII state board examination, will get a chance to appear in a special offline examination.

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) on Wednesday announced a special higher secondary final examination-2021 for students dissatisfied with the marks awarded to them as per the assessment formula recommended by the Alternative Method of Evaluation Committee set up by the government.

AHSEC, in its notification stated that candidates, who want to appear for the special test, have to contact their respective institutions. The schedule of the special test will be declared shortly, said AHSEC.

“The schools and colleges will have to apply through a portal, which will open on August 9 and close on August 15 at 5 pm,” said AHSEC controller of examinations, Pankaj Borthakur.

The council informed that the marks of the practical subjects will remain unchanged and will be considered as in the previous mark-sheets. “There will be no practical examination separately in the special examination,” read the AHSEC notification.

All categories of students such as regular, those going for reappearance, betterment, repeat, certain subjects and compartmental examinations, along with all those candidates who had applied online for the cancelled higher secondary final examination-2021 with their pursued subjects are eligible to appear in the special examination in the same subjects. “ln no case, any alteration of subject(s) other than the subject(s) applied for the cancelled Higher Secondary Final Examination-2O21 will be allowed,” the AHSEC clarified.

It stated that the mark-sheets of the special examination will be issued to the candidates after proper evaluation and accordingly, the marks-sheets issued to them as per the previous marks awarding formula will stand cancelled. “The original mark-sheet must be submitted to the centre-in-charge of the examination centre concerned to obtain the admit card before the commencement of the special examination,” the notification added.

For the aggrieved Class X state board examinees, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, has already announced a special test. Examinees can apply for the special examination in the official portal of Seba between August 5 and 12.

Even as physical classes in the state are yet to start due to the prevailing Covid situation, sources in the education department told TOI that the special tests for Class X and XII examinees may be conducted before the offline classes are allowed. “If the number of applicants is not huge, the special examinations may be conducted at the earliest by maintaining Covid protocols. However, the nod from the health department and state government is going to be mandatory,” a senior education department official said.

A record 6.55 lakh students cleared the Class X and XII state board exams this year. Despite an unusually high pass percentage, students in some parts of the state are protesting against the alleged biased approach adopted against them by the schools. The unsuccessful candidates are especially upset at their results without a physical examination.

“Our records do not prove that we are not good enough to pass the examination,” said an unsuccessful candidate.
