In losing to Canterbury at the Basin Reserve, Wellington were dismissed for just 80 and 87 in their two innings – setting a record for the lowest match aggregate in more than a century of Plunket Shield matches.

The total of 167 was Wellington’s lowest first-class aggregate since 1887 against Nelson.

Canterbury made 123 in their first innings and 334-8 declared in their second, eventually winning by 290 runs.

The second innings total was anchored by an unbeaten 143 by Black Caps batsman Tom Latham.

Canterbury remain unbeaten after two rounds.
