Captain Babar Azam conferred with Sitara-e-Pakistan on 75th Independence Day of Pakistan

Pakistan men’s captain Babar Azam has been conferred with Sitara-e-Pakistan, while women’s skipper Bismah Maroof has been bestowed with Tamgha-e-Pakistan on the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan (August 14).

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to Twitter to wish its players, saying: “PCB CONGRATULATES Masood Jan (blind cricketer), Pakistan men’s team captain Babar Azam and Pakistan women’s team captain Bismah Maroof at being conferred with civil awards on Pakistan’s 75th anniversary.”

World number one ODI and T20I cricketer, Babar Azam, is in the form of his life. He became the first player in the history of men’s ODI cricket to score three consecutive centuries on two separate occasions. Babar, who hit three centuries on the trot this year, also became the quickest player to notch 17 ODI centuries and the fastest to complete 1000 ODI runs as captain.

Babar captained Pakistan to reach the semi-finals during the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman. He was also named as leader of the Team of the Tournament by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Babar, who made his ODI debut in 2015, is in the 15th position on the all-time ODI run-scorers for Pakistan with 4442 runs in 89 runs. In T20Is, he is at the top with 2686 runs, including one hundred and 26 half-centuries, in 74 matches.

Babar is ranked 19th in the most Test runs chart for Pakistan, with 3122 runs, including seven centuries, in 42 matches. He will lead Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, where the side will meet India in their opening match on August 28.
