Corporate Traveler to Add Carbon Reporting, Offset Tools in the Fall | Business Travel News

Corporate Traveler, Flight Centre Travel Group’s SME-focused
travel management company, is adding new sustainability services in part built
from a partnership with Thrust Carbon, the company announced.

The TMC is integrating functionality from Thrust Carbon,
which provides emission data for companies to track and measure their carbon
footprints, into
its travel management platform Melon. The first tool will be a dashboard
for Corporate Traveler customers to see emission data for flights, hotels and
car rentals throughout the journey. Corporate Traveler also will introduce a
search results filter for carbon emissions and display sustainable hotel
badging. Ultimately, Corporate Traveler will be offering emissions data from
Thrust for all customers covering travel booked both online and offline.

The data will be introduced for Melon users in the U.S.,
Canada and the U.K. in the fall, according to Corporate Traveler.

The TMC also is partnering with London-based environmental
organization Trees4Travel to provide an offset offering to clients. Corporate
Traveler will use the Thrust carbon calculator to determine emissions and pass
that information to Trees4Travel, which will then determine how many trees need
to be planted to offset the travel. A three-night hotel stay and roundtrip
economy flight lasting two hours, for example, requires three trees—a total
cost of £6—to offset, according to the companies.

Corporate Traveler plans to start rolling out the
Trees4Travel offering to all its markets, with the exception of South Africa,
starting in the fall. It will be available to both Melon users and those using
a different preferred booking tool.

The TMC surveyed 301 of its clients last year and found that
68 percent are making a commitment to reduce carbon emissions, but more than
half said they have not implemented a program dedicated to reducing emissions. “With
global corporate travel bookings closing in on pre-pandemic levels, these new
tools provide a level of transparency that will empower travelers with clear
and relevant information to help them take action,” Corporate Traveler
global managing director Tom Walley said in a statement.
