Cotton University celebrates 121st Foundation Day – Times of India

GUWAHATI: The second wave of Covid-19 pandemic restricted Cottonians from celebrating the glory of the British-era Cotton University (erstwhile Cotton College) that ushered in an era of enlightenment through higher education in the northeast.

But soaked in nostalgia, the students and alumni took to social media to express their fond memories in the prestigious institution, regarded as a brand name in the field of education.

On the occasion of its 121st foundation day, the oldest premiere educational institution in northeast India, organized a celebratory virtual meet on Thursday.

The event flagged off with a welcome address by the registrar, Prof. Diganta Kumar Das followed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Bhabesh Chandra Goswami’s inaugural speech which laid out a fact sheet of the university’s current programmes, plans and prospects.

A short video clip highlighting Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma’s personal connect with the institution and his emotions as a former Cottonian was played during the event. Also, his Twitter handle quotes on the occasion were read out by Dr Sangeeta Barthakur who anchored the programme.
