CSK vs MI Highlights: Clinical Chennai Super Kings ease past Mumbai Indians to grab second spot | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A fiery Deepak Chahar special inside powerplay, a death bowling masterclass from young Sri Lankan Matheesha Pathirana and another clinical show by openers Devion Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad was all in display as Chennai Super Kings brushed aside Mumbai Indians for an easy six-wicket win in a one-sided IPL’s own El Clasico in Chennai on Saturday.
After two losses and a washed out game in Lucknow, CSK returned to winning ways as MS Dhoni and co. secured the second spot on the points table while the fifth defeat of the season for Mumbai meant they remained stuck in the middle of the points table.
Chahar, in his second game after returning from injury, wreaked havoc with the new ball as he along with Tushar Deshpande, reduced Mumbai to 14 for three in the first three overs of the game. But as Nehal Wadhera’s (64) maiden IPL fifty gave some respite to the visitors in the middle overs, Pathirana’s superb death bowling display restricted Mumbai to 139 for 8.
In the below par chase, Conway (40) and Gaikwad (30) once again shined at the top while Shivam Dube (26*) and Ajinkya Rahane (21) also added important runs as Chennai wrapped up the chase with 14 balls to spare.
