CWG 2022: India’s boxing star Mohammed Hussamuddin joins Amit Panghal in quarter-finals 

Gold Coast bronze medalist Mohammed Hussamuddin stormed into the quarter-finals of the men’s featherweight category after Amit Panghal began his campaign in men’s flyweight category on a strong note on Monday.

India’s Mohammed Hussamudin became the second boxer on Monday, August.1 to qualify for the quarter-finals of Commonwealth Games 2022 after Amit Panghal. Hussamuddin, a bronze medalist, from the Gold Coast edition in 2018, dominated his Round of 16 bout in the men’s featherweight category.

Muhammad Hassamuddin hammered Salim Hossain of Bangladesh by unanimous decision (5-0) in the round of 16 bout on Monday. Hussamuddin, a 28-year-old is one of the favourites to finish with a medal. Hussamuddin will face Tryagain Morning Ndvelo of Namibia in the quarter-final on Tuesday.

CWG 2022, Day 4 Updates

Meanwhile, star boxer Amit Panghal, a silver medalist from Gold Coast Games began his campaign at the Commonwealth Games with a facile win as he stormed to the men’s flyweight (51kg) quarterfinals here on Monday.

Panghal, a world championship silver medallist, out-punched Namri Berri of Vanuatu via an unanimous verdict.

Panghal, who is participating in his first big tournament after the disappointing show at the Tokyo Olympics, looked in control throughout the three rounds.

It was a better day for Indian male boxers in Birmingham as the likes of Shiva Thapa and Sumit bowed out of the competition on Sunday.
