In the race to digitise commerce for neighbourhood shops, Khatabook is no longer displaying its initial aggression. Dukaan, meanwhile, has been winning plenty of downloads and is in talks for the next round. But a new formidable player is challenging the nine-month-old startup as two rival camps are emerging in this fledgling consumer-Internet category.
Two startups, Khatabook and Dukaan, which fought a highly publicised and acrimonious legal battle over the ownership of an app that offers digital storefronts to small merchants, have buried the hatchet. Dukaan’s app, which was removed from Google Play for several months, was restored when Khatabook withdrew its claims. Both have continued with their own competing apps.
