ENG vs IND: Virat Kohli was all over England team like a cheap suit, they couldn’t cope, says David Llyod

David Lloyd, former England cricketer and now a cricket expert, lambasted the Joe Root-led side after their 151-run loss against India at Lord’s in the second match of the five-match series. Llyod says, England were too meek and mild.

David Lloyd has joined the bandwagon of former England cricketers, who are criticising Joe Root-led side of their 151-run defeat against India at Lord’s to take a 1-0 lead in the second Test of the five-match series.

“They were spooked by India in this Test and Virat Kohli was all over them like a cheap suit. They couldn’t cope. So now they have to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in,” Lloyd told the Daily Mail.

India’s pace quartet of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami produced a terrific display of swing bowling to crush England by 151 runs in the second test at Lord’s on Monday. England were bowled out for 120 in pursuit of a target of 272 on the final day, succumbing to the steady pressure built up by the Indian bowlers.

Resuming on an overnight score of 181 for 6, India lost Rishabh Pant (22) and Ishant Sharma (16) early, both falling to Ollie Robinson before Shami (56 not out) and Bumrah (34 not out) thwarted the England attack with some gutsy strokeplay. The duo put on an unbeaten 89-run for the ninth wicket.

Bumrah was peppered with short deliveries by the England pacers but displayed great application, taking advantage of a spread-out field that had ample singles to offer.

The England players cut a frustrated figure, with Mark Wood and Buttler getting into a verbal altercation with Bumrah over what seemed like a response to the Indian fast bowler’s barrage of bouncers aimed at Anderson at the end of day three.

“Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri knew they could get under England’s skin. England were too meek and mild. They didn’t have enough leaders to say: ”Right, we’ll go right back at them.

“Think back to 2005 and that wonderful Australian team. Michael Vaughan and Duncan Fletcher told England to get stuck into them and it worked. They didn’t take a backward step and that’s what I’d expect now. We were wimps at Lord’s!” he said.

England have dropped out-of-form opener Dom Sibley and brought in Dawid Malan for the third test against India at Headingley, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Wednesday.

Sibley, who has one test fifty in his last 15 innings, scored 11 and 0 in the second test at Lord’s, intensifying calls for his ouster.
