England become the first team to hold both World Cups in white-ball cricket | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: England cricket team emerged as the force to reckon with in the recent years and what they have done on Sunday no other teams managed to achieve in the history of the limited overs cricket.
Riding on Ben Stokes unbeaten 52 and disciplined bowling by left-arm pacer Sam Curran (3/12) and leg-spinner Adil Rashid (2/22), England edged Pakistan by 5 wickets to win the T20 World Cup and become the sport’s first dual white-ball champions, holding both the 50 and 20-over titles.
This is England’s second T20 World Cup title after 2010. Pakistan’s only title came in 2009 at Lord’s.

Thirty years after losing the 50-over World Cup final to Pakistan at the MCG, England exacted sweet revenge on Pakistan with brilliant death bowling and a Stokes half-century that reeled in a modest victory target of 138.
Stokes turned out to be the outstanding performer for England in consecutive World Cup victories as he sealed his place in history with unbeaten half-centuries in both the finals.
England won their maiden ODI World Cup in 2019 after having been runners up on three occasions in 1979, 1987 and 1992. The manner in which they became the ODI world champions became the huge talking point.

England and New Zealand both tied on 241 each after their respective 50 overs. They both scored 15 in the super-over shootout – but England were declared winners courtesy hitting more boundaries in their 50 overs.
