India continued to dominate the rescheduled 5th Test as the Asian giants sent back 5 England batters in quick succession after stretching their total to a daunting 416 on Day 2 that was interrupted by frustrating rain breaks at Edgbaston in Birmingham. India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah could not have asked for a better day on the field as he flaunted his big-hitting skills before hunting down the England batters with his pace and control with the ball.

Even on a day in which only 38.5 overs were bowled, India dominated England with both bat and ball, once again showcasing that they have the tools to beat the best despite having headed into the series undercooked.

England reached Stumps at 84 for 5 in 27 overs, still trailing India’s first innings total of 416 by 332 runs. Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes remained unbeaten on 12 and 0, respectively after Mohammed Siraj gave India the biggest breakthrough, sending Joe Root back to the hut in the final hour of the day’s play.

Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the show as the stand-in captain hit 31 runs from just 16 balls, adding crucial lower-order runs to the Indian total after hundreds from Rishabh Pant (146) and Ravindra Jadeja (104). Bumrah broke Brian Lara’s 18-year-old record for the most runs scored in an over in Test cricket as he smashed 2 sixes and 3 boundaries against Stuart Broard. The England pacer set the record for the most runs conceded in an over in the longest format of the game minutes after picking up his 550th Test wicket.
