EU Backs Booster for All Adults; More OTC COVID Tests; A ‘Pacemaker for the Brain’

In the U.S., the FDA authorized another over-the-counter COVID-19 antigen test, ACON Laboratories’ Flowflex COVID-19 Home Test, which is expected to double rapid at-home testing capacity.

As of Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. EDT, the unofficial U.S. COVID-19 toll reached 43,853,214 cases and 703,402 deaths, up 169,450 cases and 2,224 deaths since this time yesterday.

Northwell Health, New York’s largest healthcare provider, fired 1,400 employees — around 2% of its workforce — because they refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine. (New York Times)

And Johnson & Johnson submitted data to the agency for authorization of a booster shot of its COVID vaccine, ahead of an FDA advisory committee on the issue.
