Facebook CEO reveals three new features WhatsApp is working on – Times of India
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart have confirmed three features that are coming to WhatsApp, claims a report by WABetaInfo.
In its latest report, WABetaInfo, the online platform that tracks the changes and upcoming features of WhatsApp, has revealed the new features coming to WhatsApp.
Multi-device support
One of the most anticipated features, the multi-device support for WhatsApp has been speculated for a while now.
WABetaInfo has previously revealed that WhatsApp has been working on the possibility for a user to use their WhatsApp account on different devices, without an active internet connection.
Now, Zuckerberg confirmed that such a feature is indeed in the works. “It’s been a big technical challenge to get all your messages and content to sync properly across devices even when your phone battery dies, but we’ve solved this and we’re looking forward to getting it out soon.” He also added that the chats in this case will also remain end-to-end encrypted.
WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart further confirmed that the company is going to roll out the multi-device support feature in a public beta “in the next month or two.”
Cathcart revealed that users will get the support to link up to 4 devices using the multi-device feature.
Disappearing mode
The second thing that was confirmed in this conversation was the disappearing mode. In this mode, users will be able to send messages in an ephemeral manner. This means messages will be sent with a ‘View Once’ condition as seeing them once will make them disappear from the chat.
Mark Zuckerberg also confirms that View Once will be rolled out soon to WhatsApp beta users.
WhatsApp app for iPad and public beta for iOS users
During the conversation, Cathcart added that rolling out the multi-device support will make it possible for the platform to build things like enabling WhatsApp on iPad.
Also, the public beta for the WhatsApp app on iOS has been closed for new members for the past two years and that could change soon. “We know people are eager to get into the beta. Let me ask the team if we can open the beta up to some more people soon.”
