“Yes, Anirudh Thapa tested positive [for COVID-19] and he is isolated (from other team members),” All India Football Federation general secretary Kushal Das told PTI on Saturday.

Anirudh Thapa will be tested again for Covid-19 in a few days. The Chennaiyin FC midfielder has played over 20 matches and is an integral member of the senior national team.

Notably, India lost 0-1 to Qatar in Doha after a good show of defensive discipline. India are already out of contention for a World Cup berth but remain in the reckoning for the 2023 Asian Cup. They are currently at the 4th spot in Group E standings of AFC qualification.
