Former Twitter CEO says Elon Musk is not the right man for the company – Times of India

In April 2019, Jack Dorsey, founder and former CEO of Twitter, spoke about the rumours of the social media platform being sold. He said, “In principle, I don’t believe anyone should own or run Twitter. It wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a company…”But Twitter was facing certain issues and Dorsey in his tweet added that “Solving for the problem of it being a company however, Elon is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness.” How times have changed. From the “singular solution” to “things gown south” — Dorsey’s opinion has changed in just over a year.
Twitter 2.0: Hasn’t worked out?
Dorsey left Twitter and backed a new social media platform called Bluesky. Some users on the platform asked him if Musk was the right person to lead Twitter. Dorsey replied in the negative and added, “No. Nor do I think he acted right after realising his timing was bad. Nor do I think the board should have forced the sale. It all went south,” he wrote on Bluesky.
It has gone south in many ways. Twitter’s mass layoffs meant that from close to 7,500 employees, the company is down to just 1,500. The company is being sued in multiple locations for not paying rent for a few of its premises across the world. Many advertisers have stopped advertising as much as they used to. Celebrities have come out and openly said they won’t be using the platform. Almost every banned account — for hate speech and other reasons — has been brought back by Musk. Reports also suggest revenue from advertising is down for Twitter.
During the initial days after Musk had acquired Twitter, Dorsey seemed to be on the same page as Musk and even backed a few decisions. However, now he feels that Musk should have “walked away” from the deal.
