Four Covid-19 hospitals with ICU beds to be ready by July in Delhi – ET HealthWorld

According to PWD, the hospitals at Shalimar Bagh and Sultanpuri, and inside Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya and Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital complexes will have ICU beds, and emergency, outpatient and ward facilities, giving an overall push to the health infrastructure in Delhi.

Amid the recent increase in Covid cases, the Delhi government has intensified the work to complete the construction and funds have been allocated as per the modified revised budget estimates. Under the revised estimates, Rs 1,440 crore has been allocated under the subhead hospital, which includes construction of buildings, remodelling of existing hospitals, and upgradation and development of homeopathic facilities and services.

The hospital at Shalimar Bagh, coming up on 7.95 acres, will have 1,430 ICU beds. At present, three floors have been built and two more can be added. A facility with 1,912 ICU beds is being prepared on 6.02 acres inside the GTB Hospital premises.

A hospital of 610 ICU beds is being built in Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, while the Sultanpuri hospital will have 525 ICU beds. For speedy construction, rectangular tube steel structures are being used in these hospitals.

The department is also constructing hospitals in Raghubir Nagar and Kirari, but they will be ready only by October 31.

For the past two years, the Delhi government has been focused on managing the pandemic and spending a considerable amount of funds to fight it.

The work of remodelling 15 existing hospitals has also started and proposals are being prepared for four more hospitals. “Once the new hospitals are ready, the capacity will be increased by 16,000 beds,” finance minister Manish Sisodia had said in March.
