GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Georgetown’s (Ky.) season came to a close on Saturday with the 21-7 loss to Concordia (Mich.) in the NAIA Football Championship Series First Round in Georgetown, Kentucky.

The Tigers (6-2) were only held to one touchdown in the second half as the Cardinals (6-0) managed to convert multiple times on offense in the first half and put together a defensive effort that proved to be solid enough for the two-touchdown lead to seal the win.

Concordia was able to notch two scores in the first quarter of play. Donovan Johnson opened the scoring with a 47-yard touchdown catch thrown by Peter Morrison at the 11:33 mark. The Cardinals would add a second touchdown late in the quarter. Morrison converted on an 11-yard toss to Luke Wilson to put Concordia up 14-0.

Both teams continued to exchange defensive stops in the second quarter. The Concordia defense managed to make an outstanding play on special teams with a blocked punt from Set Beeler to put the Cardinals in prime scoring position on the 20-yard line. After a pair of carries from the ground game, Morrison added one final passing touchdown on the day with a three-yard touchdown to Nolan Smith to put the Cardinals up 21-0 over the Tigers at the half.

After a scoreless third period, Georgetown’s answer to the first three scores given up came a little too late for a comeback attempt. The Tigers were able to get on the board with Zach Dampier throwing to Tamir Jones for an 18-yard touchdown pass to make the score 21-7 with just under one minute remaining in the game.

Concordia’s defense held strong all game to limit the Tigers to the lone score late in the fourth quarter. Hunter Maynard led the Cardinal defense with a career-high 14 (eight solo/six assisted). On the offensive side, Wilson gathered a total of 104 receiving yards and a touchdown while Morrison threw for the three touchdowns and 221 yards.

For Georgetown, Hunter Krause and Dampier split duties from the quarterback position. Krause went 10-for-17 on a pass for 91 yards while Dampier was 10-for-19 with 81 yards and the touchdown. Defensively, Davon Starks totaled 14 tackles while Chad Holleran gathered 10.

The Tigers close out their season with a 6-2 overall record.
