Good Weekend letters to the editor: November 20

Modern Guru
I enjoyed Danny Katz’s response about boring modern cars made in bland colours [November 6]. I have owned many 1960s and ’70s American cars that grab attention on the road. The solution for today’s dull vehicles? Body wraps. Print anything on self-adhesive vinyl, peel and stick! I’ve seen Batman, Joker, Cony & Brown and Dark Side of the Moon car wraps.

I wonder what fashions in cars tell us about the spirit of the times. In my youth, cars came in pastel shades with lashings of chrome, whitewall tyres and perhaps a blind in the back window – very different from the grim, bull-barred battle wagons of today. I believe people were more optimistic back then and cars connoted this upbeat attitude. Now, it’s paranoia on wheels.

Foreign Correspondence
Amelia Lester! You’ve given me an idea: the usual hideously boring Christmas gatherings, with painful family/people only seen once a year, can easily be avoided – declare you are in iso. Brilliant!
