Google: Google introduces new safety, security features for Android, Maps and more – Times of India

The threat of malware, virus, and cybercrime is rampant in the digital world. With more and more people getting connected by the day, bad actors often use various measures to trick people. Google’s apps and services are a common target and to protect users from online security threats, the company has introduced some new features as well as updated a few existing ones.

About this image

The new tool from Google is called About this Image. It provides users with important context like when an image or similar images were first indexed by Google, where it may have first appeared, and where else it’s been seen online like a news, social or fact-checking site, said Google in a blog post.

Protection for Gmail from Dark Web

Google had given a feature to Gmail users where they were allowed to run a scan to see if their account was used on the dark web. The feature was available only to Google One subscribers in the US. Google will soon be expanding access to its dark web report to select international markets in the US.

More control over data in Android

With Android 14, Google will inform users if any app is using their location data. In a blog post, Google said, “you will be informed in permission requests when an app shares your information with 3rd parties for advertising purposes. Users will have the option to decide if they want to approve or decline location sharing for each app and thus giving them more control.

Ease of deleting history in Maps

Google is making it easier to delete history in Maps. “Currently, you can delete Maps search history from Web & App Activity. To make this even easier, we’re rolling out the ability to delete recent searches right from Maps with just a tap,” said Google in the blog post.
