Google photos: Google testing a new tool with the Photos app to refine image search – Times of India

Google is testing a new row of filters to its Photos app to help refine the user’s searches, as per a report by Android Police. The report says that the row of filters can be seen under the search bar when you search in the app for the images of a particular person. Upon tapping the filters, you can now refine your image search with these new options: Favorites, Selfies, Animations, Creations, Archive, Videos, Collages, Movies, Screenshots and Motion Photos. It also says that you can add more people to your original search in the same search bar. The type of images you wish to search can also be changed by including screenshots, selfies and videos, adds the report.
The filters could be part of a server-side update, says the report, however you could check for them by updating the Google Photos app to the latest version.
Google recently announced that it would be ending free storage for the Photos app from June 1. Starting from this date, even the High-quality photos that are added after June 1 will be counted as part of the free 15GB cloud storage that Google gives. You can, however, change the format of the photos stored in your Google Photos app from Original to High to save some space since the High-quality photos are compressed versions of Original quality photos and will take less space. Here is how you can do it. It might be a good time to remove the clutter from the cloud storage too by deleting the unnecessary photos that are hogging up all that free space that Google is giving.
