Google rolls out two new Material You Contacts widgets – Times of India

Google Contacts for Android is getting two new widgets — Individual Contacts and Favourite Contacts — for the home screen based on the Material You theme.
Google Contacts already has three types of shortcuts – Contact, Direct dial, and Direct message. However, they are like app icons featuring the contact’s profile image with the Contacts app badge. Now, the Contacts app is adding a widget for individual contacts. The new Individual Contacts widget is based on the Material You design theme.
The Google Contacts app also recently updated its icon on Android, WearOS, and even on Gmail. The Individual Contacts is a 2×2 widget that uses the Material You’s scalloped shape and crop profile avatars to display its features. The message shortcut is located in a rounded square at the top-left, while a circle at the bottom-right represents the call shortcut. The widget can be customised and you can also resize the widget, then it adapts to the size.
Meanwhile, the Favorite Contacts widget can hold up to seven top-starred contacts. You can resize it to show two, four, and six contacts, and it can be expanded to take up the whole home screen.
To access the Single Contact widget, you have two options: either long-press on the Contacts icon or navigate to the system widget picker. Once there, you can drag and place the Single Contact widget on your homescreen, which will then open the “Choose a contact” picker. Or you can long press on the home screen, choose Widgets, then select Contacts, and choose the Individual Contact widget.
The same can be done to put the Favorite Contacts widget on the home screen. The widget shows the starred contacts in the Contact app, and there is no option to customise the contacts unless you change it within the Contacts app.
