Hospitals gear up to face surge in cases – ET HealthWorld

Hospitals gear up to face surge in casesHospitals have started preparations again like identifying isolation areas, figuring out duties for Covid wards, looking at their stocks of medical supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE) to battle an upsurge in the number of Covid-19 cases, hospital executives told ET.

“The discussions around Covid have started once again as the numbers started to go up. The skilled nursing staff have been identified, and we are looking into our stocks. Overall, we are preparing ourselves so that if the infection accelerates, there is no panic and shortage of medical supplies,” said an executive at Max Healthcare on the condition of anonymity.

The situation is the same in other hospitals, too. Apart from the facility of Covid beds, the hospitals are looking into the availability of medicines in sufficient quantities to ensure that there is no shortage of medicines in any situation.

“We have a plan in place to ramp up the bed and human resource infrastructure to manage any additional Covid volumes that may come in the weeks ahead,” said an executive at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi.

Last year, during the second wave of the pandemic, the country had struggled with an unprecedented shortage of hospital beds, medicines and medical oxygen. The hospitals are gearing up so things remain under control.
