How to activate iPhone and Android Emergency SOS function

A recent survey by UN Women UK found that virtually all women in the UK have been subjected to sexual harassment.

Claire Barnett, executive director of UN Women UK, said: “This is a human rights crisis. It’s just not enough for us to keep saying ‘this is too difficult a problem for us to solve’ – it needs addressing now.”

It also found that most women do not have faith in the relevant authorities desire and ability to deal with cases of sexual harassment or other forms of assault or misconduct – 96 percent of those surveyed did not report incidents, and 45 percent said even if they did, it would not change anything.

Emergency SOS is a feature introduced in iOS 11 that helps users call the emergency services without actually having to call them.

On iPhone, pressing your lock button five times in a row emits a loud siren, counts down to three, then calls emergency services. It also texts your emergency contact, alerting them that you are potentially in danger.

It will send the emergency services and your emergency contacts your location as well.
