Indian racer Jehan Daruvala is hopeful of his chances at the Hungaroring this weekend, saying that it is one track that he really enjoys driving.

Daruvala will be looking to secure his seventh podium finish on Sunday. He secured his sixth top-three finish in France as he finished second. It was also the fifth time he finished in the runner-up spot this season.

The 23-year-old has a certain liking for the track on the outskirts of Budapest, as he has raced at the circuit multiple times. He finished second in Hungary while racing Formula Renault in 2016 and followed it up with a third-place finish in European Formula 3 in 2017.

Daruvala continued his love affair with the Hungaroring in 2020 as he scored a double points finish at the venue in his first F2 season in 2020. The race was absent from the 2021 F2 calendar.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s race, as quoted by PTI, the Indian racer said that the track is one that he really enjoys and it is quite similar to the Monaco circuit.

Given the similarities to the Circuit de Monaco, Daruvala feels that overtaking will be difficult on Sunday and qualifying will be absolutely crucial for his chances of a podium finish.

“The Hungaroring is a track that I really enjoy. While it is a purpose-built circuit, its tight, twisting corners have a street-track feel to them, making it very similar to Monaco.

“Of course, that means overtaking is always difficult here and qualifying will be absolutely crucial this weekend. We know that’s an area we need to improve on but we’re working hard to make that step up so we can fight at the front in the Feature race on Sunday,” said Daruvala.

The race during the weekend will be the final one before the series takes its annual summer break.
