If you get this email from Virgin Media, there’s dire news about your broadband bill

If an email from Virgin Media drops into your inbox this week, you’d be wise not to ignore it. The UK Internet Service Provider (ISP) announced plans to hike prices for millions of broadband and phone customers at the start of last week, and now, many are now finding out exactly how much more they’ll soon be expected to pay.

Virgin Media has said that the average increase for its users will be around £4.70 per month, but each contract is different so some will be hit by a bigger increase while others will pay a little less.

An email, seen by Express.co.uk, reveals one Virgin Media customer’s bill is increasing by £3.25 per month, which is similar to what was rolled out last year, however another user has posted a message on Twitter showing their contract going up by a whopping £5.75.

In the email, Virgin says: “We know a price rise is never welcome, but it’s essential we continue investing in our technology. It means you can keep doing the things you need to do – and love to do – on all your devices. To help us carry on with this work, the price of your package will go up by £3.25 a month from 1st March. Last year we worked hard to give you a better experience with us, improving our network capabilities and fixing faults, but we’re not stopping there.”

The increase will come into force from March 1, 2022.

If you’re unhappy about the changes then Virgin is offering the option to cancel the contract or switch to a new plan without facing a penalty. This must be done before February 2.

“We hope you’ll carry on enjoying your services with us,” the email continues. “But if you want to, you can change or cancel your package at any time before 11/02/2022, without paying any cancellation fees. Visit virginmedia.com/pricechange to find out more.”
