IIM-Vizag concludes management programme for HSL officers – Times of India

VISAKHAPATNAM: The five-day customised management development programme (MDP) for the second batch of Hindustan Shipyard Limited officers concluded at the Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam (IIMV) on Friday. According to IIM-Vizag officials, the objective of this customised programme was to develop the overall set of managerial skills, advance the strategy, and enhance the adaptability to the dynamic changes in the organisation for the HSL officers.

Chief guest for the valedictory and director (strategic projects), Hindustan Shipyard Ltd., Cmde. Girideep Singh (Retd), spoke about the importance of empathy in business leaders and the skills necessary to thrive in the current dynamic business environment. He encouraged the participants to sustain the networks formed during the training and share the insights gained at their workplace.

Director, IIM-Vizag, Prof. M Chandrasekhar, quoted Ameeta Chatterjee, member of the board of governors of the Institute, from her book – “Joyful Living: Reflections of a Happy Soul” to say that ‘the most important qualities one needs to possess are the 4T’S – truthfulness, thoughtfulness, togetherness, and tenderness.’

“The amalgamation of these qualities will help any individual perform well in the organisational context,” added Prof Chandrasekhar. He asked the participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training to the challenges at the workplace.

Sharing the experience of the customised training programme, Goura Kishore Nanda of HSL said; “The takeaway from the programme was insightful and enlightening as we could look at the issues with a fresh perspective and think of probable management principles in solving the existing problems in the organisation.”

Another participant Sushil Kumar spoke about how he could seek knowledge and learn various topics spanning from strategic planning to marketing that would be beneficial in his field of work.

A third participant, Sudhir, also endorsed the usefulness of the MDP and how all the management themes were delivered in an interesting manner, making them ask for more.

The five-day programme, led by Prof Balaji Subramanian and Prof MV Anuradha, covered all the typical functions of management, with special focus on topics such as project management, contract management, design thinking, innovation, customer management, communication, stress management, and interpersonal effectiveness.
