intel: Intel Core i9 vs M1 Max: How Intel’s claimed most powerful laptop processor compares to the Apple’s most powerful – Times of India

Intel has unveiled its 12th-generation Core i9 mobile processors for laptops at CES 2022. The latest chip goes directly against the Apple M1 Max chipset, which has already set a benchmark in the industry by offering best-in class performance and efficiency compared to other processors.
At the presentation, Intel has made big claims about the latest generation processors and claimed that it is faster than the M1 Max, in fact they made a claim that it is the fastest mobile processor.
Let’s take a look at the specifications of the 12th-generation Core i9 processor and how it compares to Apple’s most powerful M1 Max chipset on paper.
For starters, the Core i9 is a 14-core processor that includes six high performance cores and eight power efficiency cores. In comparison, the M1 Max features a total of 10-cores that includes eight high performance cores and two power efficiency cores.
Things get further interesting when it comes to clock speeds and power draw. The Core i9 can attain max power draw of up to 115 watts and has a max turbo clock speed of 5.0Ghz. Which is once again more powerful than the M1 Max.
The chart that Intel showcased at the launch presentation shows a graph between performance and power chat that indicates better power per watt ratio compared to the M1 Max chip.
However, there are a few things that Apple M1 Max still does better than the 12th-generation Intel Core i9 processor. M1 Max can run at lower power consumption and also has good thermal management. Which makes it suitable for thin and light laptops like MacBook Pro.
On paper, Intel’s chip certainly feels more powerful, but it is only a matter of time before Apple unveils its M2 chip that may take a big leap in performance. Also, these results on Intel’s 12th-generation Core i9 chipset is just based on specifications and data revealed by Intel. So, we will have to test the laptops, which are expected to arrive later this year, for a clear perspective.
