IPL 2022: Rising Indian batting star and U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull wants to learn from Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A long-cherished dream of ICC U-19 World Cup winning Indian captain Yash Dhull is all set to be fulfilled.
The 19-year-old is looking forward to meeting his idol Virat Kohli and taking tips from the former India captain during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season 15, scheduled to be played between March 26 and May 29. Dhull will be playing for the Delhi Capitals after being bought at the last player auction. The Delhi franchise picked up the 2022 ICC U-19 World Cup-winning skipper for Rs. 50 lakh.
WAITING TO MEET VIRAT KOHLI
“I am eager to meet Virat bhaiya. He has been my inspiration. I have always idolised him. I want to interact with him and take a lot of tips from him. I want to ask him how he bats in crunch and high-pressure games, how he manages to control his mind, and how he took his fitness to another level. I have led the under-19 team but the way Virat bhaiya handled his team and players was amazing. I want to ask him how he managed his team and ensured his players stay pressure-free so that they can put in their best performances,” Dhull told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.

Dhull captained India to the Under-19 World Cup title earlier this year after his team defeated England in the summit clash.
DHULL MAKING ALL THE RIGHT NOISES ON FIRST CLASS CRICKET DEBUT
After guiding India to World Cup glory, Dhull was handed his first-class debut and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The 19-year-old Delhi lad smashed centuries in both innings of his first-class debut (113 and 113 not out vs Tamil Nadu).
He followed that up with a majestic 261-ball 200* knock, his maiden first-class double century, against Chhattisgarh. He smashed 26 boundaries and shared a mammoth 246-run stand with Dhruv Shorey for the opening wicket.

“The color of the ball doesn’t matter to me. I just go out and express myself. That is my approach towards the game. I don’t want to change my style of play. I want to keep it the same in whichever format I play. It was my debut (First Class vs TN), but I wasn’t nervous. I also want to play for the senior (India) team. That’s the aim and goal. But I want to take it one step at a time. My ultimate goal is to play all formats of the game,” Dhull further told TimesofIndia.com.
THE IPL PLATFORM
Dhull will be playing under India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant’s captaincy in the Delhi Capitals camp. And, the 19-year-old is very excited to be able to play for his ‘home team’.
“I am so excited to be able to play with the Delhi Capitals. Delhi is my home team and playing for the home team is a different feeling altogether. I started my career with Delhi and played all my cricket for Delhi and will now be playing IPL cricket for Delhi. It is an incredible feeling,” Dhull said.
“Rishabh bhaiya is a great motivator and a very good captain. I want to learn the nuances of a leadership role from him. He is so energetic on the field. The way he enjoys his game and keeps motivating and encouraging his teammates, from behind the wickets, is amazing,” Dhull further told TimesofIndia.com.

Apart from Pant and Dhull, the DC franchise also have the likes of David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan, Anrich Nortje, Chetan Sakariya, Kuldeep Yadav, Lungi Ngidi, Mustafizur Rahman, Shardul Thakur, Rovman Powell, and Khaleel Ahmed in their ranks.
“DC has an experienced side. There are big stars in their dressing room. I am going in after playing Under-19 cricket and will be facing a new challenge. I will be learning how to hold my nerve in fast-moving games. It is going to be a huge learning experience for me. My coach Rajesh sir has said – just believe in your instincts and play your natural game. He said – don’t think about when you will get a chance, but when you do get it, just go there and give your 100 percent,” Dhull signed off.
