Jeff Bezos: Jeff Bezos to step down as Amazon CEO on this day – Times of India

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is going to officially step down from the post of Amazon CEO on July 5 this year, as per a report by Variety. According to the report, the date –July 5 — is sentimental to Bezos as Amazon was incorporated 27 years ago in 1994, on the same date.
The next CEO of Amazon would be Andy Jassy, who currently holds the position of CEO of Amazon Web Services.
Though Bezos is stepping down from the role of Amazon CEO, he will continue to remain in the company as executive chairman.
“I’m very excited to move into the exec chair role where I will focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives,” the report quoted him as saying. Bezos informed the world about his decision at Amazon’s annual shareholder meeting.
As for the next CEO, Bezos had uplifting words. “He has the highest of high standards and I guarantee that Andy will never let the universe make us typical. He has the energy needed to keep alive in us what has made us special.”
Amazon started out as an online bookstore and expanded to become a full-fledged e-commerce store. Considered as one of the Big Tech companies, which include Apple, Google and Facebook, the company also has a cloud technology platform called Amazon Web Services, which was launched by Andy Jassy 18 years ago. AWS has proved quite profitable for the tech giant, reaping a big chunk of revenue for the company. As per the report, the next CEO Jassey has brought back former senior exec Jeff Blackburn to Amazon to oversee the company’s media and entertainment division.
