COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Lady Lions softball team (41-13) fell 9-0 and 4-2 to the College of Idaho (42-17) on Wednesday, bringing its season to an end in the Fayette Bracket of the NAIA Opening Round.
After falling 9-0 in the first championship game, the Lady Lions got behind 2-0 in the if-necessary game after two innings.
They were able to battle back, though, first in the third inning when Allie Mitchell hit a one-out solo home run to make it 2-1, and then in the top of the fourth inning when Laiken Page hit a single down the right field line that plated Sophie Dunavant, tying the game 2-2.
After a scoreless fifth frame, the Coyotes were able to shut the Lady Lions down in the top of the sixth and then score two runs in the bottom half to take a 4-2 lead.
Page finished the contest going 2-for-3 at the plate with the RBI. Morgan Crawford pitched a complete game in the circle.
The Lady Lions’ 42 wins is the most in program history, and 22 of those wins came in an undefeated season at home.
