By India Today Sports Desk: Fans waited in anticipation for Messi to arrive at ‘The Unveil,’ the dramatic conclusion to months of speculation about where the World Cup-winning 36-year-old would play after leaving French league leaders PSG this year. Six weeks of waiting since Messi’s announcement in June were finally put to rest.
Messi appeared with his new bosses in front of fans and fireworks to reveal his new colours, holding up his #10 shirt to cameras. Fans erupted as the center-forward was joined on stage by David Beckham, the club’s president and co-owner, who described it as a “dream come true.”
The La PresentaSIon ceremony, held at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, also marked the official signing of former FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets. The 35-year-old Spaniard signed a contract extension through the 2025 season.
“I want to thank everyone for yesterday! The rain made it different than planned, but it was still beautiful. Thank you to everyone who came, thank you very much for all the love and also to the artists who were there and, despite the conditions, sang spectacularly. See you again on Friday,” Messi wrote in his Instagram post.
Messi delivered an emotional speech to his adoring fans, accompanied by his wife and children, and was photographed hugging and thanking Beckham for bringing him to the club: “I want to thank everyone in Miami for this warm welcome and affection. I’d like to express my gratitude for your kindness and love. I am overjoyed to have chosen this city and this project with my family. ‘I have no doubt that we will have a good time.”
