Gary Neville has claimed that Manchester United could finish in the bottom half of the table if they don’t bring in another forward to solve the goalscoring woes amidst Cristiano Ronaldo’s uncertain future at the club.

Erik ten Hag’s tenure at the club got off to the worst possible start as United suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening two games, with the latest being a 4-0 humbling at the hands of Brentford.

Apart from the issues on the field, Ronaldo’s future at the club has also been a major headache for United, with the Portuguese superstar holding out for a move to a Champions League club.

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the Liverpool vs Crystal Palace game on Monday, as quoted by Caughtoffside, Neville said that the club has to make a major decision about Ronaldo. The club legend also went on to say that they would need to add reinforcements to the attack or else could find themselves finishing in the bottom half of the table.

“As I sit here today, I think there’s a massive decision they have to make on Cristiano Ronaldo and they’re damned if they do, damned if they don’t.”

“A few weeks ago before the season started the best thing to do was to facilitate a move out the club for Cristiano because he’s obviously not happy and the club aren’t happy with him.

“The problem they have now is if they lose him there’s nothing left in terms of the goalscoring part of the pitch, and I think if they don’t bring players in or if they bring in poor players and he leaves, I genuinely think they can finish in the bottom half of the table.”

“That’s a bottom half of the table team, that’s a massive statement,” said Neville.

United’s next game will be a tough fixture against arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on 22nd August.
