Max Verstappen says Sebastian Vettel’s F1 retirement was expected: It’s something that you could see coming

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has commented on four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel’s decision to step away from Formula One, saying that it was something that was expected.

Vettel announced his retirement from the sport on Thursday. The German driver created an Instagram account to post a video explaining his decision to quit the sport. The former World Champion said that the main reasons behind his decision was to spend time with his family and pursue his other interests off the track.

While many were shocked to hear Vettel’s announcement, Verstappen said it wasn’t a big surprise to him.

As quoted by Motorsport week, the reigning world champion said it was something he could see coming. He said that it is important that Vettel now gets to spend time with his family since F1 is such a short period of time in a driver’s life.

“To see him go, it’s something that you could see coming everyone is getting older, at one point everyone is retiring.”

“It is of course never nice when that moment arrives, especially, of course, for Seb’s fans, but these things happen.”

“I think it’s important now that he’s just going to enjoy his life with the family, because F1 is such a short period of time in your life that you work so hard to achieve all these things that he has achieved, and now it’s time to enjoy,” said Verstappen.

The Red Bull driver went on to hail Vettel’s impact on the sport, saying that he has been a great ambassador for f1 and his achievements justify his decision to walk away at the end of the season.

“At the end of the day, he has achieved so much in this sport that it’s fully understandable for him to retire.”

“I think he’s had an amazing career, he’s won a lot of races, he’s won a lot of championships as well, and I think he’s a great ambassador for the sport,” said Verstappen.
