Meta’s Threads app to soon feature auto-delete posts – Times of India

ThreadsInstagram’s answer to Twitter — saw 10 million sign-ups within hours of its launch. The app is available on the web, App Store and Google Play Store and enables users to like, comment, repost and share content. After Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg launched the Threads app on July 6, Elon Musk‘s Twitter made some changes as the company quietly removed login restrictions for viewing tweets.
Now, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, in response to a feature request related to automatically deleting posts after 90, said, “I was thinking 30 but make it a user choice, but maybe 90 if better…” Once the feature is rolled out, the Threads app will automatically delete the posts after 90 days.
How did it start
If you go by the number of downloads in less than a week, then a Twitter alternative was very much needed. Threads is set to cross the 100 million downloads mark and is the fastest growing up of recent times.
Twitter has seen a few radical changes since Elon Musk took over in October 2022. There have been layoffs, introduction of an all-new subscription service and a few other changes that may have not gone down well with some users.
Threads does come as a Twitter alternative with a ready-made user base on Instagram. You don’t need to open an account on Threads as long as you have an Instagram account. The sign-up process, the similar look and face to Instagram, and to do what you can do on Twitter seems to have propelled the downloads of the Threads app.
Incidentally, Threads has made it clear that it doesn’t want to replace Twitter in any form. Mosseri, in a thread said, “The goal isn’t to replace Twitter. The goal is to create a public square for communities on Instagram that never really embraced Twitter and for communities on Twitter (and other platforms) that are interested in a less angry place for conversations, but not all of Twitter.”
