India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has commented on Suryakumar Yadav opening the innings for the team in the first T20I, saying that there might have been some thought process behind the decision.

India defeated West Indies in the first T20I by 68 runs after posting a mammoth total of 190 runs in the allotted 20 overs. In response, the hosts could only muster up 122 runs.

Despite the win, one of the major talking points in the game was seeing Yadav come out to bat alongside Rohit Sharma as an opener. The Mumbai batter usually comes in at either No.3 or No.4 and it was a surprise for the fans and spectators on the ground.

Yadav scored 24 runs in 16 balls during the first T20I before being dismissed by Akeal Hosein. Speaking about the decision to open with the Mumbai Indians batter, Kumar admitted that he wasn’t really aware of the reason behind the call.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference before the second T20I, as quoted by Crictracker, the Indian pacer said that there might have been some thought process behind the decision and it wasn’t random.

He went on to say that the coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma wanted to achieve something with the move and there must have been some deep thinking behind the call.

“I really don’t know. Itna pata hai ki zaroor kuch thought process raha hoga (All I know that there must have been some thought process behind it). It surely wasn’t random. I’m sure whatever the coach and captain want to achieve something out of this. Honestly, I don’t know what exactly was the thought process behind it, but I’m sure there must’ve been some deep thinking,” said Kumar.

The second T20I between India and the West Indies has been delayed by two hours due to logistical reasons. The match will now start at 10 pm IST.
