HIGHLIGHTS

  • Scott Allan was diagnosed with a heart condition back in January 2021
  • Scott Allan has scored 23 goals from 236 matches
  • Scott Allan played for Hibs last season

Scottish footballer Scott Allan reckoned that his heart condition has created issues for a number of teams over the last one and half years. Since January 2021, the 30-year-old had been suffering from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which leads to shortness of breath and fatigue.

During that time, he didn’t play for Hibernian FC, popularly known as Hibs, for five months. The Glasgow-born Allan isn’t a part of Hibs anymore after he left the Scottish club last season. After not finding a club for the first time in his 14-year-long career, Allan hasn’t thrown in the towel just yet.

“I’m 30 years old, 17 games in the Scottish Premiership last season for Hibernian, but for the first time in 14 years, the season kicked off and I don’t have a club,” Allan wrote in his column for BBC.

“There’s life left in me. I need to be playing. Since being diagnosed with the heart condition a few years ago, it’s thrown doubt in there for some of the clubs. I know the way chairmen think. One million percent it would be an issue for some teams,” he stated.

“I’ve worked so hard to get back. This is the first summer in 14 years, since I’ve been a professional, where every day I’ve managed to disconnect a little bit,” Allan added.

Apart from his heart condition, Allan also has diabetes and takes insulin injections on a daily basis. The veteran has also plied his trade for Dundee, Rotherham, and Celtic during his career. In 236 matches thus far, Allan has hit 23 goals.
