nest: Google’s Nest smart display may feature a detachable tablet-like design – Times of India

Google is reported to be working on an update for its Nest series smart displays. 9to5Google has reported that the search engine giant is working on a new Nest Hub that is expected to launch sometime this year.
The report suggests that the company is planning to take a different approach with its upcoming smart display by offering a detectable tablet-like form factor that will allow users to detach the smart display from the dock/base section.
The new form factor for the Nest Hub appears as the aftermath of all the new features the existing Nest Hub (2nd-generation) and the Hub Max have received in recent years. In recent updates, Google has added a new swipe up gesture that brings a row of apps and there’s the option to open the complete grid of icons in fullscreen.
In addition to that, the Nest Hub and Nest Max now also feature a well-equipped web browser with a Gboard keyboard that allows users to browse and also send web links directly to the linked smartphones.
While the existing software on Nest Hubs is decent enough to offer a tablet-like experience. However, it is still unknown how Google is planning to implement the detachable smart display idea. Also, there are several questions that are still unanswered. For instance, what about the battery life. Can someone carry the tablet with them and use it wherever they want without the base dock, etc.
We will get to know more as more details about the upcoming Nest Hub pans out over time. Meanwhile, the idea seems to be pretty interesting, if Google manages to implement it properly.
