OnePlus OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro will not get additional 5G bands in India, confirms company – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Smartphone maker OnePlus launched its latest OnePlus 9 series of smartphones in India earlier this year.
The company launched three smartphones in the series — OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9R. During the launch, the company said that the 5G-enabled smartphones support 5G SA/NSA bands N41 and N78 bands.
However, various online reports said that OnePlus customer care has confirmed that three smartphones will get support for more 5G bands. The reports mentioned that the company will roll out an OTA update after which the smartphones will get support for more 5G bands.
Now, OnePlus staff has confirmed that the company will not add any additional 5G bands to the OnePlus 9 series in India. When answering FAQs one of the OnePlus staff confirmed that smartphones will not get any additional 5G bands via a software update in the country.
In an official statement, OnePlus said, “The Indian OnePlus 9 Series models only support 2 bands for 5G New Radio (NR). The 5G bands on the OnePlus 9 series are decided based primarily on the priority of Indian carriers. The highest priority band is n78, which will be the most commonly deployed 5G bands in India and has the widest frequency that reflects the advantage of 5G transmission rate so far, then potentially n41 and other bands. Meanwhile, we will keep working closely with Indian carriers to monitor regional developments and continue improving our product and service so that OnePlus users can enjoy a fast and smooth 5G experience.”
Recently, OnePlus rolled out OxygenOS 11.2.5.5 software update for the OnePlus 9 Pro and the OnePlus 9. The software update brings a security patch for the month of May 2021. Along with this, the OTA update also brings some camera improvements to the two smartphones. The update rolled out by the company will also improve the charging performance on the two smartphones.
