Ramesh Pokhriyal to hold virtual meeting with all state education secretaries today – Times of India
The three main agendas of the Monday meeting are COVID-19 and online education, implementation of the national education policy 2020, and discussion on whether Class XII exams are feasible in the current scenario.
The minister will also interact with vice-chancellors of central universities on Tuesday and a meeting with the directors of various IITs and IIMs are likely to be scheduled later this week.
According to the ministry of education officials, the minister apart from understanding the efforts made by various states and UTs on education during the pandemic will also discuss strategies for implementation of the NEP 2020 in these unprecedented times.
While the CBSE is going to review the current situation to assess the possibility of conducting the Class XII exam on or after June 1, 2021, Pokhriyal is also going to take up the matter with the states and UTs to understand the ground situation from different parts of the country.
“The states and UTs will be in a better position to say about the ground situation and whether it will be possible to conduct the Class XII exams anytime soon or at all. There has been a growing demand for the cancellation of the exams. Students are genuinely in distress with either themselves or their families recovering from the disease or many of them losing their parents and relatives,” said a senior ministry official.
